How Did Obama Win?

Thursday November 6, 2008
Courtesy of Getty Images. Barack Obama won the presidency with a coalition of support from all sectors of the American population. While blacks overwhelmingly supported him and Hispanics voted for him 2-to1, so did the white youth whose turnout was one percent higher than four years earlier. Obama even did well with white men, winning 41 percent support from this group. In fact, he is the first Democrat since President Carter to win more than 38 percent of white men. How did Obama win such broad support? It was concern over the troubled economy and the desire for change that helped boost Obama to victory.

I agree. President-Elect Obama did win the Presidency by a wide range of people. He could not have won without the backing of some white voters. This is one reason I voted for him. I did not at any time hear him refer to himself as a black president, for black people only. He always said president for all people. The other reason is this, I respect the way he ran his campaign. No confusion, no negative responses to negative responses. I like the “No-Nonsense” type of attitude he has. President-Elect Obama is aware of the hard work that is in store for him, I believe he will accomplish the goals he has set. It may not be in his first year, or his first term, but I believe he will put the plan in place. It is going to take a long time to get this “mess” we are in cleaned up.

Obama won because he spoke well, seemed calm, defeated Hillary Clinton, promoted change from George W. Bush, and ran when a world crisis made Americans forget about race. Let us hope the best is yet to come.

Obama won because the Democrats destroyed our country while serving under Bush — trying to make bush look like a goon. Then, the media (and Hollywood – AKA: ‘I don’t know much about leading a country, but I play a leader on TV’) played up Obama’s campaign. Of course, the only other remotely publicized opponent, John McCain, was not a favorable role model either. When is this country going to find a true leader and hero to bring US back from the damnation that we have gotten ourselves into? Yes, it’s time to man-up and admit that WE (EACH and EVERY UNITED STATES CITIZEN) have done this to ourselves, and WE are the only people that can get us out! Stop the ignorance and educate yourselves! The library is there for a reason, and it’s not just to sit at a computer and watch YouTube or plunder through MySpace. Stop wasting YOUR time and OUR money: do something productive with your life or find a way to support yourselves!

I agree 100% with what George B said. The media not only made McCain look like an idiot but they were also making Sarah Palin Look like some redneck. During the entire campaign the media was comapiring Obama to Palin instead of McCain. Another thing to think about is the last time we had democratics controlling all houses was DURING THE DEPRESSION! What does that tell you?

(6) common sense says:

Obama won because Bush killed the Republican party. People did not want 4 more years of what Bush gave us, so the only other answer was Obama. In reality, it was choosing between the lesser of two evils. Even with the suicide that the Republican party committed on themselves, the presidential race was still a fairly close race. Obama is full of BS just like every other politician, but at least others have experience. Obama is ignorant with respect to the American economy and business management (what he is trying to do with GM). YES IGNORANT, look up the definition of ignorant to fully understand the word for those out there that think ignorant means “retarded” or “stupid.” I DON’T CARE WHAT COLOR OBAMA IS OR ANYTHING ABOUT HIS RACE, what i care about is his inability to perform the job he has been given. Remember him saying no earmarks and then he passed over 2,000 earmarks and backed it up by saying Bush made them… well, IT TOOK OBAMA TO SIGN OFF ON THEM which means HE COULD HAVE REFUSED THE EARMARKS. Remember him first saying no taxes/less taxes for those making under 250K… then 225K.. then 200K… then 150K.. well, now EVERYONE will get new taxes. Tobacco and Soda are just the start of many NEW TAXES EVERYONE will have to pay. We have to pay for his crazy spending somehow! Obama won because the media was biased and he knew what say to the majority of Americans to get them on his side. Idiots, Obama will bankrupt America by 2012. He has NO IDEA what he is doing and it is BS white people were afraid to vote against him because they didn’t want people to think they were racist. THAT IS BS. And now anyone that thinks Obama is doing a horrible job is viewed as a racist.. So, because he is black.. well, HALF BLACK, HIS MOM WAS WHITE… so, because he is 1/2 black, he is always right?? NO People need to grow a set and stand up for what is right and wrong and speak their mind abou this ignorant man running our country into the ground. WHY DOES HIS COLOR HAVE TO BE SUCH A BIG DEAL?!?!? COLOR SHOULDN’T BE A JUDGEMENT. HE’s not ignorant because of his skin, color, race, or anything like that… He is ignorant because he DOESN’T have the proper education with respect to the current issues America faces. For example, everyone he put in office has tax problems… why would someone who knew what they were doing put those people in those positions?? SADLY, after 4 years, Obama will have caused MORE damage than both Bush’s put together. In summation, Obama won because he knew which lies to tell the American public and 90% of the media was biased largely due to the color of his skin. so for all of those making a big deal about the color of his skin…. guess what?? HE IS JUST AS MUCH WHITE AS HE IS BLACK!

Thank you common sense. Thank you so much. However, you left out one thing, the fact that ACORN, an associate of Obama, rigged up faulty names like, oh I don’t know, “Daffy Duck,” “Mickey Mouse,” etc. and these “individuals” actually voted. If America is still around by 2012, and I would like to emphasize IF, I HOPE Americans are more educated and not so prone to EXTREME swings between parties. Level yourselves out for God’s sake. One more controversial subject, before I go, gun control. The only thing I have to say is, wrong-doing individuals are going to obtain guns, whether you like it or not. The real problem comes when, what are you going to do about it when they break into your home with the possible intent to rape, murder, and rob you and/or your family? Are you going to politely ask him to leave? Good luck with that.

The media making Sarah Palin look like a jackass. Let’s explore that shall we. She was quite stupid and in interviews she failed miserably and avoided many questions horrendously. During the VP debate the republicans tried to delay it as much as possible and when she finally did debate she lacked structure as a debator and left many key questions un-answered.
