Orangeburg Massacre

Definition: After black students had tried for several days to integrate Orangeburg's segregated bowling alley, on February 8, 1968 violence broke out on the campus of South Carolina State University. It began when a patrolman was accidentally injured with a piece of banister. In response, policemen began firing into the crowd of students. Three students were killed and 27 were injured.
