Heineken's Black History Month Art Contest
Words, Beats & Life and Heineken are holding an art contest in honor of Black History Month. They're looking for new talent over the age of 21. Submit your artwork the first three weeks of February to be judged the final week of February (Feb. 21-28). The winner, who will be announced on March 15, will be featured in a Heineken ad campaign for 2012's Black History Month. The winner will additionally receive $5000.
Maya Angelou Celebrates Black History Month
In honor of Black History Month, National Public Radio (NPR) is airing a special program hosted by Maya Angelou. Listen as Angelou holds conversations with Chris Rock, Cornel West, Lee Daniels, Common, and Dorothy Height.
National Youth Summit Webcast
The Smithsonian is partnering with the National Endowment for the Humanities to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Freedom Rides on February 9, 2011. Participants in the Freedom Rides, including Congressman John Lewis and James Lawson, will share their experiences with students in a live webcast. You'll need to register to view the webcast.
