The Origins of Black History Month
Black History Month has not always been a month long celebration. In fact, contrary to popular belief, Carter Woodson was not responsible for the idea. Originally, a black fraternity created a weeklong celebration called Negro History Week. It was Carter Woodson, however, whose sponsorship and development helped turn it into a popular month long celebration.
