Harry Belafonte is a singer, actor, and activist. He popularized Caribbean music and is most known for his song “Banana Boat Song.” As an actor, he starred in the musical Carmen Jones but his involvement in the civil rights movement negatively affected his acting career. Belafonte worked with Martin Luther King, and was responsible for helping to finance and raise money to keep the movement afloat.
