Definition: Work calls were sung by black vendors who left the rural South for southern and then northern cities. These types of songs were used to sell their products.
Examples:

Watah-ah-ah, mil-yon!
Watah-ah-ah, mil-yon!
She's sweet an' juicy,
She's ripe an' red!
Wake up lady,
Git out yo' bed!
Watah-ah-ah, mil-yon!
